How to play 2048
2048 is played on a 4x4 board. Each move slides every tile as far as it can go in one direction: use the arrow keys, WASD or a swipe. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one showing their sum, so two 8s make a 16. After every move a new 2, or less often a 4, appears in an empty square.
Each merge adds the new tile's value to your score. Make the 2048 tile to win, then choose Keep playing to aim higher. The game ends when the board is full and no neighbouring tiles match. Undo takes back your last move, one move at a time, and New game starts over.
Tips
- βΈKeep your highest tile in one corner and rarely press the direction that would pull it out.
- βΈBuild a descending chain along one edge, such as 256, 128, 64 and 32, so merges roll towards the corner.
- βΈKeep the row with your biggest tile full, so an awkward slide can't drop a small tile into the corner.
- βΈMerge small tiles early. Scattered 2s and 4s fill the board fast.
