How to play Letter Rain
Raindrops carrying letters fall from the clouds. Press the matching letter key to pop each drop before it reaches the grass. If two drops share a letter, the lowest one pops first, and a box at the bottom shows which key the lowest drop needs. Every drop that lands costs one of your five hearts, and the game ends when they're all gone.
Every eight pops you go up a level, and drops fall faster and more often. From level 3, short words like CAT and SUN start falling, typed letter by letter with the next letter highlighted; from level 5, four-letter words like FROG join in. A letter scores 10 points, and a word scores 10 per letter plus a 20-point bonus.
Tips
- βΈWrong keys don't cost hearts, so beginners can take their time hunting for a letter. Only drops that reach the ground do damage.
- βΈAlways deal with the lowest drop first. It's the one about to land, and the hint box tells you its next letter.
- βΈWords are worth far more than single letters (50 points for a three-letter word), so finish them before they sink too low.
- βΈUse the slow early levels to build good habits: left fingers on A, S, D and F, right fingers on J, K and L.
Letter Rain FAQ
- Who is Letter Rain for?
- Children who are learning where the letters are on a keyboard. Early levels use single capital letters, and later levels add simple words like DOG, BUS and KITE.
- Does it work on a tablet or phone?
- Only with a physical keyboard, because you play by pressing letter keys. A tablet with a keyboard attached will work.
- Does Caps Lock matter?
- No. The game reads which key you press, not upper or lower case, so Caps Lock and Shift make no difference.
