How to play Counting Fun

Counting Fun offers three games. Count shows a group of pictures, such as apples or stars, and asks how many there are. Add shows two groups with a plus sign between them. Take away crosses out some of the pictures and asks how many are left. Your child answers by tapping one of four big number buttons.

Each round has ten questions, and the numbers grow as it goes: counting starts with up to six objects and ends with up to twenty, and sums never go above twenty. A right answer earns 10 points, shown with a star, plus 5 more for answering within five seconds. A wrong answer is never punished: the right number lights up and the next question follows.

Tips

  • ▸Start with Count, then move on to Add and Take away once your child can count groups of ten or more reliably.
  • ▸Encourage your child to touch each picture while counting out loud. Pictures sit in rows of five, which also helps them spot groups of five.
  • ▸In Take away, count only the pictures without a cross.
  • ▸Don't worry about the quick bonus at first; a right answer matters more than speed.

Counting Fun FAQ

What age is Counting Fun for?
It covers early maths for ages 4 to 7: counting up to 20, adding two small groups and taking away within 12.
What happens if my child picks the wrong number?
Nothing bad. The right answer is highlighted with a Nearly! message, no points are taken away, and the next question appears a moment later.
Can my child answer with the number keys?
Keys 1 to 4 choose the answer buttons in order, shown by the small number in each button's corner. They don't type the answer itself, so tapping or clicking is easier for young children.
